What is silence?

Can we feel it?

Can we see it?

Can it be photographed?

“At home there’s always a car passing, a telephone ringing, pinging, or buzzing, someone talking, whispering or yelling. There are so many noises that we barely hear them all. Here it was different. Nature spoke to me in the guise of silence. The quieter I became, the more I heard”

“Silence In The Age of Noise”- Erling Kagge

The time and space where one can endure silence is becoming less and less across the globe. The Southwest of England is home to geographic silence, whether that be along the coast or on the moor. Daniel has photographed moments of silence across the landscape, moments of vastness and simplicity. Physiological healing can take place in silence, and the land can provide necessary answers. His body of work was made during the Covid winter 2022/21, the world had shut down and many were seeking saviour in nature

“Silence is about rediscovering, through pausing, the things that bring us joy.”
